Lars Brown has been serializing his latest comic project, titled "Penultimate Quest", on his website, and debuted the first collected volume at the Emerald City ComiCon last week. He's currently running a KickStarter campaign to fund a larger print-run and there's still time to contribute. You can get your own copy, with personalized sketches, and even some sweet original art, including the original pages from the comic! Check it out here: Penultimate Quest KickStarter!
Emerald City was huge this year, with the show taking over the entire convention center. A lot of the local creators who were exhibiting have blogged about their experiences and posted sketches they did while there; you can check out their individual sites and social network pages for their thoughts and pics. For a reminder of who all was there, see this post: CSG at ECCC!

The Avengefuls!
Tomorrow (May 2) marks the release of yet another big comic title from a local creator - The Avengefuls by Joshua Covey, written by Bleeding Cool's Rich Johnston and published by Boom Studios! This is one of a series of Marvel movie parody comics that Johnston is doing, each one based on a different Marvel property.
You can check out a few pages from the issue here: Avengefuls Preview!
Joshua has been extra busy recently - he is also illustrating all of the covers for the 2nd printings for all four of the Marvel parody books, as well as doing the 3rd printing cover for Boom Studios' Supurbia #1. You can see that cover here: Supubia by Joshua Covey.
And don't forget that this week is also the release of Dynamite's The Spider, drawn by Colton Worley, who will be signing at Merlyns tomorrow from 5 - 7 pm. In addition, you'll have a chance to meet both of these creators at the upcoming Spokane ComiCon, on May 19!

Catbeard the Pirate Book One!
This is the fundraising campaign for Guild member Matt Nelson's first print collection of his webcomic, about the adventures of a pirate cursed with a living cat for a beard. Yes, it really is as awesome as it sounds. :)
Just $15 gets you a signed copy of the book, and helps support an independent comic creator (and pretty dang cool guy). There's also bonuses, like sketches and original comic art, available for additional contributions - you can even be a part of Catbeard's crew!
The book has a lot of bonus material, including a new story not released on-line and a ton of awesome pin-ups by indy creators, including a fair number by other Guild members. Matt will be at the upcoming Spokane ComiCon on May 19th - he should have copies of the book, at least a limited run, available for purchase there.

Spokane ComiCon and More
Hello everyone!
Sorry, it's been a while since I've regularly updated the journal here. I've been busy getting ready for the convention. Just a heads up for everyone, here is this week's events!
TODAY (Sunday, May 16) 3PM - Merlyn's Comics and Games, W 19 Main, Spokane, WA
Meeting for the Comic Smiths Guild members. We will be talking about future events through the summer, and most importantly the Spokane ComiCon this Saturday.
Monday, May 17th - Spokane Community College Student Sketch Day, 1810 North Greene Street
Several of us guild members will be sketching from 11am until 2pm in the SCC Lair.
Saturday, May 22nd - Spokane ComiCon 2010 at SCC, 1810 North Greene Street
This is the big one for Spokane. The Guild will have a couple tables at the convention, stop and say hi. We will have art and comics up for sale! Lots of goodies, exclusive prints, and we will be doing sketch cards as well as larger commissions. Link to Spokane ComiCon's website: [link]
In preparation for the con, I have a painting I am painting specifically to sell at the con, friends who have seen it already want to buy it, or something similar. I should be finished tonight with it, I'll be posting it online here. I'm excited for that. Once the painting is done, I'll be jumping back on sketch cards. At Emerald City, sketch cards sold like hot cakes. I'll be knocking out a whole new collection of them. Please stop and say hi to the Comic Smiths Guild, we'd love to see you!
