Rose City ComiCon!

If you're going to be near Portland, OR this weekend, be sure to check out the Rose City ComiCon! This two day show is co-produced by the fine folks responsible for Seattle's Emerald City ComiCon, and is already a healthy size for this being only its second year.

The Spokane area will have it's own representatives in attendance, of course, including: Joshua Covey, Manny Trembley, Matt Nelson, and the creators of Transolar Galactica!

Both Manny and Matt will have the first copies of their newest books (RGB & Catbeard Book 2, respectively) available for purchase at the show, and Joshua will have merchandise from his recently Kickstarted graphic novel Baako, along with preview pages for the book to check out.

Baako Kickstarter!

Joshua Covey's Kickstarter campaign for his Baako original graphic novel is in its final stretch, but there's still time to contribute and help make it a reality.

Baako is an all-ages action adventure epic, telling "the story of a young girl coming of age in a world full of unimaginable terrors. She must find the courage to set out on a journey full of peril, loss, and betrayal and learn to overcome it all."

There are just three days remaining in the campaign, and it needs all the support it can get to reach its goal. Please spread the word and contribute if you can!

Baako  - Book 1 Kickstarter!

Baroque Network!

Baroque Network is a free, tri-annual, public event where artists and other creatives from the Spokane area can meet, network and have fun.

Part of the event is the Seven2 Draw Off,  which pits two groups of 3 local artists each, doing live drawing based on a theme. This time around, one of the teams is the "Comic Book Guys", made up of 3 Guild members: Jeremy Whittington, Colton Worley and Joshua Covey.

There will also be raffles, a screen-printing station, belly dancing, a photo booth as well as many local art and vendor booths.

The event will be at A Club Spokane from 5 pm to 10 pm, this Saturday July 7. There's no admission fee, but donations will be accepted, with proceeds going to help Feed Spokane.

The Avengefuls!

Tomorrow (May 2) marks the release of yet another big comic title from a local creator - The Avengefuls by Joshua Covey, written by Bleeding Cool's Rich Johnston and published by Boom Studios! This is one of a series of Marvel movie parody comics that Johnston is doing, each one based on a different Marvel property.

Joshua has been extra busy recently - he is also illustrating all of the covers for the 2nd printings for all four of the Marvel parody books, as well as doing the 3rd printing cover for Boom Studios' Supurbia #1. You can see that cover here: Supubia by Joshua Covey.

And don't forget that this week is also the release of Dynamite's The Spider, drawn by Colton Worley, who will be signing at Merlyns tomorrow from 5 - 7 pm. In addition, you'll have a chance to meet both of these creators at the upcoming Spokane ComiCon, on May 19!

New Comics to Check Out!

Rich Johnston, comics writer/journalist and founder of the Bleeding Cool comic news site, has a collection of one-shot comics coming out in April, all parodies of different Marvel movie characters. Each one is illustrated by a different artist, including one - The Avengefuls - drawn by local artist Joshua Covey!

Hot off his Dark Horse Comics debut in House of Night #2, Joshua now adds another big publisher, Boom! Studios, to his credits. The books are available for pre-order in this month's Previews catalog and you can find more information about them here: Avengefuls Assembled!
